The "La Liga" management appealed the decision to approve Gabi's new contract and today the court accepted its claims and ordered the cancellation of Gabi's registration as an adult player.
Gabi actually already agreed on his new contract and the change of number from 30 to 6 at the beginning of the season, but the parties agreed in advance that the contract will come into effect at the end of January, after Barcelona will make room in the salary cap for Gabi's improved contract, however the appeal of "La Liga" was accepted because Barcelona submitted Gabi's new contract a day late.
It should be noted that another meaning of the court's decision is that Gabi at this stage is not registered in Barcelona under a professional contract as a graduate player and hence he is allowed to leave at the end of the season.
The 18-year-old midfielder signed a contract until 2026 that includes a release clause of one billion euros, but as long as his contract is not approved by "La Liga", it is not valid and therefore the young star is a free agent.
Barcelona will now file their own appeal.
Just yesterday, Gabi started in the Barcelona lineup with the number 6 on his back and was a part of the prestigious victory at the San Mames Stadium 0:1 over Athletic Bilbao, thanks to him, La Ograna maintained a 9-point lead at the top.
On Sunday, the big Clasico will be held at the Camp Nou between Barcelona and Real Madrid, where Gabi will wear the number 30 again - after already wearing the No. 6 shirt in the Clasico as part of the Copa del Rey at the beginning of the month at the Bernabeu.
