Talence will receive "
the gratin of French athletics
", rejoices Joris Cheyrou, deputy director general of Sport for the City.
The agreement, which should have been signed Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. by the French Athletics Federation (FFA), Bordeaux Métropole, US Talence Athletics and the municipality of the Bordeaux crown, was postponed by the strike to April.
An “
administrative formality
” which Joris Cheyrou does not worry about.
In 2025, the French elite category athletics championships will take place in Talence.
A competition that will crown a triptych: in 2024, it is the junior cadets who will experience the national competition, while 2023 will be marked by the interclub championships for young people competing in the elite.
Events which reflect "
the rise in skills of Talence
", estimates the municipal director of Sports.
And for good reason: while it was still the City with the most licensees in the discipline before the Covid-19, the municipality invested massively in its Pierre-Paul Bernard stadium.
17 million euros have thus financed the renovations and extension of the premises - where Kevin Mayer became the first Frenchman to break the decathlon world record with 9126 points in 2018. Brand new locker rooms, weight rooms, dojo of 400 square meters, additional tracks or even the creation of a covered athletics hall, the work must be completed by June.
Well in time for the Decastar 2023, organized by the association for the development of combined events and the meeting of Talence (Adem) since more than 1976.
