The SGO swimmers Moritz Hoffmeyer and Katharina Rath competed in two competitions within a week.

They got several top rankings.

District – Two big competitions within one week were recently on the program for the two top swimmers of the SG Oberland-Penzberg.

Katharina Rath and Moritz Hoffmeyer started in Gersthofen and Erlangen.

Both showed remarkable performances, for Hoffmeyer the performances were also dress rehearsals for the state championships.

Rath cannot take part in the Bavarian title fights (March 17th to 19th in Bayreuth) due to school commitments.

Bronze at the International Swim Meeting in Erlangen

As for his performance in the 100 meter backstroke, two hearts were beating in Moritz Hoffmeyer's (born 2005) chest.

On the one hand, the Weilheimer was "disappointed and angry about the performance".

1:09.70 minutes was not the time the SGO athlete had dreamed of, as it was 1.3 seconds above his own record.

On the other hand, he won a bronze medal at the "International Swim Meeting" in Erlangen in the age group "born 2005 and older".

And Hoffmeyer was "of course also satisfied" with that.

He unreservedly agreed with his result in the 50-meter freestyle.

There he set a personal best of 27.22 seconds, which surprised him a little.

Because it "only felt good on the last meters", reported Hoffmeyer.

He came ninth out of 24 participants.

Hoffmeyer with personal best over 50 meters freestyle

Katharina Rath (born 2006) did well in the big competition with 560 participants from 35 clubs.

On the 50-meter track, she finished seventh in the 50-meter freestyle with 30.45 seconds in her year group.

She missed her personal best time set in February by six tenths of a second.

Over the 1500 meter freestyle, the Penzberger convinced with a respectable fourth place in the all-year ranking.

At 19:26.18 minutes, she was only about a second and a half behind the third-place finisher.

In the water, she “felt pretty good overall.

I'm satisfied with the time, I was faster than at the Bavarian championships in January.” Rath was happy that this time, unlike in Bayreuth, there were no so-called double occupancy.

Each swimmer had the lane to herself and did not have to share it with another athlete.

Special atmosphere at the Cool Swimming Cup in Gersthofen

The “Cool Swimming Cup” in Gersthofen doesn't get its name by accident.

During the competitions, music fills the indoor swimming pool with its 25-meter pool, and a light show provides special visual effects.

Various relays and elimination races also ensure a special flair.

38 clubs (from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Austria) came to the 14th edition.

Around 450 athletes completed almost 2400 starts.

The SGO duo proved to be "extremely successful," according to a statement.

With nine starts, Hoffmeyer and Rath took nine podium places, and four personal best times were also recorded.

However: The hope of achieving one or the other additional mandatory time for the upcoming Bavarian championships was not fulfilled.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.)

In the end, Hoffmeyer's conclusion was clear: "It was the best competition in a long time." He particularly emphasized the good cooperation with the other clubs.

In his year, Moritz Hoffmeyer won the 50 meter butterfly (29.32), the 200 meter freestyle (2:11.19) and the 100 meter butterfly (1:06.50) with personal best times.

Another first place he achieved over 100 meters backstroke (1:05.12).

The Weilheimer took second place in the 100-meter individual medley (1:08.60) – there with a personal best time – and the 50-meter freestyle (26.65).

The results "give new impetus and special motivation for training and the next competitions".

In addition, he was allowed to run the 50-meter freestyle in the elimination race, but was eliminated in the first round with a time of 26.61 seconds against the consistently older competition.

Rath won gold in her year in the 100m backstroke (1:16.78) and the 200m butterfly (2:58.41).

She completed the latter discipline for the first time in competition.

"I definitely wanted to try the route," said the Penzberger.

From about 125 meters, "the whole thing got very dragging and the forces decreased noticeably," she reported.

Despite everything, it was "a lot of fun".

She described her performance on the backstroke, which she rarely swam, as "mediocre".

In the 50 meter freestyle (29.53), she came in third among ten starters from the 2006 class.

In addition to Rath, only the two athletes in front of her remained under 30 seconds.

The native of Penzberg missed her current personal best by around three tenths of a second.
