In his last game as coach of the Ice Pirates, Franz Steer was offered an encore.
– After extra time, the Eispiraten had to admit defeat to ESC Geretsried 3: 4 (1: 2, 1: 1, 1: 0, 0: 1) on Sunday evening.
The guests underlined from the first second how important this game was for them.
Up until the first break, it was almost all going in one direction.
Brilliant saves were demanded of Andreas Marek on the assembly line.
He was powerless at Geretsrieder 1:0 by Martin Köhler.
A penalty against the River Rats briefly turned the tide.
Benedikt Dietrich completed a successful power play with the equalizer.
The rest of that period belonged to Geretsried, who took the lead three minutes later through Daniel Merl.
Tomas Vrba had one chance to score, and it was top-class, but goalkeeper Johann May brought the tip of the catch to the puck.
Vrba also opened the second third, again with a counterattack.
And again May was the end of the line.
Geretsried then slowed down a bit, but still had a couple of very good chances to score.
Dorfen then conceded the first two penalties in quick succession.
The second time with a man more, Daniel Bursch made it 3-1 for the River Rats.
One and a half minutes before the next break, Christian Göttlicher pulled away, but failed to hit May. Susanj got the disc put back in the face-off that followed, and his low shot scored the goal.
The ice pirates gave the go-ahead for the final section.
Captain Göttlicher escaped again and was braked unfairly.
He made the following penalty a “top priority” and equalized.
The game turned into an open exchange of blows.
Penalty times didn't exactly make it easy for the ice pirates.
Both goalkeepers prevented a decision in the final minutes with spectacular saves in regular time.
Urban Sodja and the Dorfen team started to celebrate when the puck hit the post.
In return, Florian Strobl aimed more precisely for the 4:3 winning goal.
Given the Waldkraiburg deficit in Pfaffenhofen, the fan block of the guests had been celebrating relegation for some time.
