Eintracht Frankfurt and Makoto Hasebe have agreed to extend their contract by a year until summer 2024.

Frankfurt – It's official: Makoto Hasebe will stay with Eintracht Frankfurt for another season.

The club announced early on Tuesday morning (March 21) that an early contract extension had been agreed with the Japanese until summer 2024.

Most recently there were speculations about another year of the oldies on the pitch, now the club and the players have successfully concluded the talks.

Eintracht Frankfurt extended with Hasebe

Hasebe is entering his tenth season on Main and has long since achieved cult status among SBU fans.

In 2014, the now 39-year-old came to Eintracht Frankfurt from 1. FC Nürnberg and impressed everyone around the club and city not only with his qualities on the pitch, but also as a person off the field.

Eintracht Frankfurt without Makoto Hasebe is unimaginable for many and even after his career he will stay with the club because he has a contract with SGE until 2027.

“Makoto is the only professional who can decide for himself whether to renew his contract.

We're glad he made that decision and that we're staying with us for another year as a player.

With his attitude, his discipline and his footballing quality, he is not only an absolute role model in our team, but also an enrichment for our game.

At almost 40 years of age, he is one of the big names in the Bundesliga and an ambassador for Eintracht Frankfurt and German football beyond national borders," sports director Markus Krösche is quoted as saying on the club's website.

Eintracht Frankfurt: Hasebe with an emotional declaration of love

"I am very happy that I can and am allowed to play football at the highest level for another year with Eintracht.

It's special to be part of the team at such a big and successful club at the age of 40.

I will continue to take responsibility, want to be a role model for our young players and lead the way.

Frankfurt has become my home, Eintracht is my club.

That's why I'm already looking forward to being part of this club after my career," said the oldie himself about his contract extension, the announcement of which took place in Hasebe's home Tokyo, appropriate to the special occasion.

Makoto Hasebe made a total of 279 competitive appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt.

The greatest successes during his time on Main were the victory in the DFB Cup in 2018 and success in the Europa League in 2022. Should the soon to be 40-year-old play a role in the coming season, he would be the oldest Eintracht professional of all time in the Bundesliga and overtake legends like Rudi Bommer and Uli Stein.
