Six consecutive victories raised Washington to a 26:24 record and ninth place in the Eastern Conference at the end of January.
Danny Avdia and his friends looked great then, on their sure way to secure a play-in ticket, but in recent weeks everything has changed: the Wizards count five losses in their last six games, and after Chicago's victory over Philadelphia tonight (between Monday and Tuesday), the Bulls opened a two-game gap in tenth place in the east, and from here it is difficult to see the team from the capital (39:32) returning.
It does not look good.

The bad news for Washington is that, unlike Washington, the Bulls actually have excellent momentum.
Chicago counts three straight wins and five in the last six games, including against not bad opponents at all - Denver away, Philadelphia away, Miami at home and Minnesota at home.
Now, the Bulls are closer to ninth-place Toronto (half a game) and eighth-place Atlanta (one game) in the East than they are to Washington.
The Wizards, by comparison, are closer to 12th-ranked Indiana (half a game) than they are to getting the play-in ticket.
"We have a bigger goal," DeMar DeRozan said after the impressive two-overtime victory over Philadelphia - Chicago's first victory over Joel Embiid after 12 straight losses.
"We fight for our lives every game, we are desperate every night."
According to the website Tankathon, which ranks the difficulty of the games of all league teams until the end of the season, Washington and Chicago are tied in 18th and 19th places, but the Wizards seem to have a slightly more comfortable schedule, and also more home games - 7 of 11, compared to 5 of 11 of the Bulls.

Quite a few players in Washington are far from their peak recently, and one of them is Avdia.
The Israeli scored in double figures only twice in his last 12 games in the best league in the world.
Statistically, he's only had two worse months in his NBA career than this March, which has yet to end.
During it, in ten games, he averaged 5.9 points, 33.9 percent from the field (only in October 2021 did he record a lower percentage - 30.8) and 25 percent from beyond the arc (as in October 2021 and November 2022).
By comparison, in February, Avdia had 10.5 points per game, shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from beyond the arc.
In six games last month he scored in double figures, compared to only two in March.
The Israeli's playing minutes also dropped: in his seven games at the start of the season, in October, he averaged 17.1 minutes per game.
Since then, in no month has it decreased from 26.7 minutes per evening, but currently it stands at 22.7.
His plus-minus index in March stands at -3.6, compared to +3 in February and +1.5 in January.
It should be noted that in December, the plus-minus index was even more negative, with -4.4.

The one who will return to Washington's five tonight against Orlando is Kristaps Porzingis, who was absent from the loss to Sacramento due to illness.
Unlike him, Kyle Kuzma, who is suffering from an ankle injury, will not dress.
