Arina Savalanka, who lost at the weekend in the final of the Indian Wells tournament to Lelena Rybakina and is now preparing for the Miami tournament, says that she faces displays of hatred from other tennis players because she is Belarusian.
Belarus is an ally of Russia and allows it to attack Ukraine from its territory.
Savalanka and other tennis players from Belarus have never voiced an opinion against Russia's violent invasion of Ukraine, nor have they expressed solidarity with Ukrainian tennis players.
But the Australian champion from a few months ago nevertheless finds it difficult to understand the negative feelings towards her.
"It was really hard for me because I have never encountered such hatred in the locker room," Sabalenka said regarding the recent period.
She also talked about conflicts she had with team members of female tennis players from Ukraine and added: "There are a lot of haters on Instagram and the networks, but in the dressing room? I've never seen anything like that. It's hard for me to understand why so many people hate me for no reason. I didn't do anything."
"I did not do anything".
