Now the next athlete is announcing her departure.

Munich – When it came to World Cup victories, the Finn Mari Eder never played the biggest role, unlike Denise Herrmann-Wick, Marte Olsbu Roiseland, Tiril Eckhoff or Anais Chevalier-Bouchet.

But like the four others, long-time World Cup athlete Eder is now ending her career.

Biathlete Eder looks back on her career with self-criticism

Mari Eder, who lives with her husband, former Austrian biathlete Benjamin Eder in his homeland, addressed the public in an Instagram post.

In it she thanked her sponsors, coaches and colleagues.

She was also very open and self-critical.

The Finn was able to stand on top of the podium twice in her career and Eder made it into the top three for a third time.

However, she did not succeed in a major event, which is why she is hard on herself.

“Like every top athlete, I dreamed of winning a personal medal.

In the end, I have to admit that my skill, hard work or talent wasn't enough," Eder wrote on her Instagram post.

There was not much missing for Eder to a medal

At the 2017 World Championships in Hochfilzen, she just missed her dream with fourth place.

Even if she was close, "in truth I was far too often too far away".

Eder gained new insights during her career: "At the end of the day, I also learned to appreciate the enormous amount of work and commitment that it took to achieve this.

The realization that you have put your heart into it 100 percent helps you to accept what is being left out.” (
