2023-03-23T11:58:46.043Z

Omari Bain, a Can Buxeres player, will play with the American team in the Concacaf Nations League matches, the first against Trinidad and Tobago this Friday

From playing in municipal fields in Catalonia with a capacity for 200 people to playing official matches at Tom Robinson, the official stadium of the Bahamas team in Nassau with a capacity for 15,000 spectators.

From playing in a humble and familiar club in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat to representing his country in official competition.

Omari Bain (Nassau, 2003) is a young Bahamian striker, he is barely 20 years old, he has lived in Barcelona for four years and plays for Can Buxeres, a team in the third division of Catalan football where he has scored 6 goals in 17 games.

Thanks to these records, the Bahamas coach, Nesley Jean, has decided to count on Omari for the next two international commitments.

“I am very grateful to the coach for counting on me, playing in the senior team of my country is an honor.

We want to win these two games and also qualify for the Gold Cup and I intend to do my best to achieve it", Omari says by phone from the Bahamas concentration, with which he has already scored a goal and has given an assist in the friendly ones

The forward knows that thanks to his season with Can Buxeres he can fulfill his dream of playing with the national team: “I don't think he can express my love for the club and the people in words.

The support they show me and the unity of everyone, from the youngest players to the veterans, is something I really admire.

My Spanish is not the best

The gratitude that Omari feels for Can Buxeres is also reciprocal: “We are very happy with him.

His behavior has always been exemplary.

His greatest virtue is education.

For this reason, in a club with this humility and that is a family, we have welcomed him very well, ”says Efrén García, his coach.

Although his arrival to the L'Hospitalet de Llobregat team and to Catalan football is due to the B1 Soccer Academy school, which is in charge of bringing young players from the rest of the world to Barcelona: "They live in our residence, they have full board and they We are looking for studies (Omari studies Business at the EU Business School).

Then we train together three days a week in the morning and then in the afternoon they go to train at the clubs that we have been able to assign them, according to their abilities, their way of playing, their age or their physique".

The boy started playing soccer at the age of six in the Bahamas.

Aware that his country was not the best place to progress in soccer, baseball is the king of sports, he decided to try his luck in the United States where school and university soccer is more demanding.

He was only 14 years old when he left his house.

His first season in American soccer was not easy, he had a hard time adjusting and he missed his family a lot, but he knew it was necessary if he wanted to succeed as a soccer player.

In his sophomore year, he established himself and was among the top 12 in the State of Vermont, winning a championship in 2018. Even so, his ambition went further and in September 2019, at just 16 years old, he did not hesitate for a second. on fulfilling his dream of playing in Spain: “I came here because its football culture has always attracted me.

I felt that Spain was the place that would help me expand my football knowledge.

And he has done it and continues to do it to this day, ”says the Bahamian player.

Bain plays as a center forward, he is a footballer with great physique, a lot of power and speed who does a great job both attacking and defending.

His technicians agree that he is a very cheerful and joking person who generates a good atmosphere both in Can Buxeres and in the B1 Soccer academy.

All this despite the language barrier, since his Spanish, despite understanding everything, is not very fluent.

"At the club he has coincided with a Japanese and an Argentine who speak English and that has also been another of the keys for him to be comfortable and feel good," says his coach Efrén.

This call is not the first for Omari.

In June 2022 he was already called up while he was a member of UCF Santa Perpètua in the 2nd Catalan division.

On that occasion, he participated in the victory against San Vicente and Granadillas (3-0) and in the defeats against Nicaragua (0-2) and Trinidad and Tobago (0-1).

The fact of being summoned by the absolute team of his country can cause Omari a distraction and a fame that takes him away from his true objectives.

This is an important aspect that they work on at B1 Soccer: "It happens a lot and when they arrive in Barcelona we give them a month of adaptation to manage their ego because in their countries they are the best and they think that with the quality they have they can be in a top notch team here.

When they arrive they realize that it is another reality”, confesses Eric Bertran.

However,

His coach at Can Buxeres knows that Omari has his feet on the ground: “He has things very clear, I have a very good relationship with him, we talk a lot and above all he is very humble.

And he knows that if he believes it and stops working, he will not get anywhere, ”says Efrén.

Despite the call-up with their country, in the academy they are aware of their limitations and how difficult it is to succeed in Spanish soccer, “It is difficult to reach the elite in Spain but we managed to open doors for them in other countries.

Like in the United States”, declares Eric Bertran.

Whatever happens, Omari is clear about his goal: "I want to one day become a fully professional, to be able to dedicate myself fully to what I like, to be able to support my family in the Bahamas and to help change football in my country."

The story of Omari Bain is an unusual event within the Catalan 3rd division, a more

amateur category,

but one that has allowed the Bahamian player to attract the attention of his team and be able to fulfill a dream: to play for his country in official competition.
