He thus became the world record holder for the number of appearances in the national team, surpassing the one with whom he shared it until then, the Kuwaiti Bader al-Mutawa (38 years old, 196 selections), still active but no longer summoned by his country.
And the five-time Ballon d'Or celebrated it in the most beautiful way: with a double, including a splendid and overpowering free kick at the entrance to the area which concluded the Lusitanian offensive festival (4-0).
