The era of Julian Nagelsmann at FC Bayern is over.

The dismissal of the coach now costs Munich a lot of money – due to a contractual clause.

Munich – The decision has been made, Julian Nagelsmann has to leave Bayern Munich.

With the 35-year-old's leave of absence, the record champions not only triggered a sporting earthquake, but also a financial one.

Because the coach, for whose commitment a high transfer fee had already been transferred, is still entitled to a not inconsiderable severance payment.

If Munich had waited a good three months before dismissing them, they would have saved themselves a lot of money.

After bankruptcy against Leverkusen: Julian Nagelsmann fired at Bayern

Julian Nagelsmann's end was not foreseeable.

The man from Landsberger had just coached FC Bayern Munich to the quarter-finals of the Champions League in two strong games without conceding a goal against Paris Saint-Germain.

In the Bundesliga there was then a 5:3 win against FC Augsburg, in which the defense wobbled at times.

At Bayer Leverkusen, however, the Munich team lost 2-1 despite being in the lead – albeit due to two penalties.

Sport director Hasan Salihamidzic then strongly criticized the team, but the dismissal during the international break came as a surprise.

The players were probably taken by surprise by the news, too. New signing João Cancelo, for example, found out in a live interview that his coach had been kicked out.

Julian Nagelsmann: Contract clause guarantees the coach an "exorbitantly high" severance payment

For Bayern, the Nagelsmann exemption is now apparently really expensive.

It's not just about the transfer fee of rumored 25 million euros, which the series champion transferred to Nagelsmann's previous club RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 for the coach.

Above all, Nagelsmann's long-term contract and a special clause could really hurt Bayern.

The Bundesliga Primus provided Nagelsmann with a contract until 2026 in the summer of 2021, but not only the unusually long term is a problem.

As reported by

Kicker

, a clause in the working paper states that the coach is entitled to an “exorbitantly high severance payment” in the first two years in the event of dismissal.

This would only have decreased from July 2023, so the Bavarians could theoretically have waited a few months to avoid the high additional costs.

Nagelsmann is said to have earned around eight to nine million euros a year from the record champions.

Added to a little more than three years that the coach would have been under contract in Munich, he would have pocketed more than 24 million euros.

An exact amount of the severance payment is not known, but other coaches, such as José Mourinho or Antonio Conte, are said to have received severance payments of 13 to 30 million euros in recent years.

Nagelsmann-Aus at Bayern: Thomas Tuchel is already in the starting blocks

Since the Bayern bosses apparently saw the triple in danger, they now pulled the ripcord.

The Nagelsmann-Aus was therefore decided just a week before what is probably the most important league game against leaders Borussia Dortmund.

In the weeks that follow, the DFB Cup quarter-finals against Freiburg and the Champions League quarter-finals against Manchester City follow.

During Friday, Nagelsmann on Säbener Straße will be informed about his leave of absence.

In the future, Thomas Tuchel is to take over the reins at Bayern, and the former Chelsea trainer has been in contact with FCB for weeks.

Now it comes just in the hottest phase of the season to change coaches.
