France team: Mbappé doubles Benzema, Griezmann finds the net


Kylian Mbappé is now the fifth top scorer in the history of the France team. Antoine Griezmann ends a streak of 16 games without scoring.

With his 37th and 38th goals for the Blues, Kylian Mbappé overtook Karim Benzema, while Antoine Griezmann ended a series of sixteen matches without scoring for the France team on Friday against the Netherlands.

Three days after his 32nd birthday, the Atlético Madrid playmaker has finally found a taste for goal in the blue jersey, at the start of qualifying for Euro-2024 in Saint-Denis.

He scored his 43rd international goal in the second minute, served by Mbappé.

His last goal dated back to November 13, 2021 against Kazakhstan (8-0) and he had gone through the 2022 World Cup without scoring, at a more remote position.

Third best French scorer in history, behind Olivier Giroud (53 goals) and Thierry Henry (51), Griezmann now has forty-three goals on the evening of his 118th selection, the 75th in a row (record).

Passer on the first goal, Mbappé also scored in the 21st minute, then doubled the bet in the 88th.

This double allows the new captain to rank fifth among French scorers, at 24 and after only 67 caps... He overtakes Benzema, recently newly retired, and is now aiming for fourth place for Michel Platini (41 goals).

He continues his fantastic series, after his hat-trick in the final of the last World Cup, lost on penalties against Argentina (3-3, 4-2 on pens).

Scorer against Australia (4-1) and author of a double against Denmark (2-1) and Poland (3-1), Mbappé is on a series of 20 goals in his last 17 matches in the blue jersey .

He finished top scorer in the World Cup in Qatar, with eight goals.
