Hard to watch: MMA fighter passed out, "the worst referee in history" didn't stop the fight (Fury FC 76)
MMA fans and commentators were left shocked and appalled by the decision of the so-called "worst referee in history" in the ring.
During Edgar Shearz's fight over Janney and Essex during an event in San Antonio this weekend, the latter was already knocked unconscious by a powerful leg kick from his opponent.
Referee Frank Colazzo looked closely at the incident, but decided not to stop the fight for long seconds, which felt like an eternity, especially against the background of the broadcasters chanting "He's done, he's passed out, stop the fight!".
Fans and staff around the ring also called on the referee to stop the fight, but he apparently assumed that Essex was still conscious and still had a chance of being saved, despite being choked in a lapita for several seconds.
Later, since he was passed out, he was unable to surrender even when he was under the lock of his elbow - when Lafati and Essex regained consciousness and signaled to stop the fight.
According to popular MMA journalist Ariel Halwani, who has 1.3 million Twitter followers, "This is one of the worst displays in the history of judging. What the hell. Most irresponsible."

The organizers also apologized and announced: "One of the important duties of the ring referee is to protect the fighters, and he failed in his duty."
