Gonzalo Montiel became a national hero in Argentina after he scored the winning penalty in the final of the last World Cup in the penalty shootout against the French national team, which gave Albiceleste the World Cup for the first time since 1986. Now, it turns out that the right-back of the Argentine national team and Sevilla is facing a rape case in which he is accused of attacked a woman at a party at his house.
The complaint against Montiel was filed by Raquel Hermida Leinda, her lawyer, a long time ago regarding a sexual assault that a woman claims she experienced from the defender at a party held at his home in 2019.
In an interview her lawyer gave to the Argentinian media in recent days, he detailed what was done.

"It happened on January 1, 2019, at Montiel's house, during her birthday celebrations," said the lawyer.
"She had only seen him twice before. At one point in the evening, she was completely unconscious. Several hours later, she woke up lying on the street, outside the door of Montiel's house. She does not know how many people were involved in the rape, but from tests medical examination she conducted immediately after, we can say that it happened."
The incident was investigated in recent months in Argentina, and the representative of the complainant expressed concern about the continuation of the investigation and the trial: "She received many threats about the accusations against Montiel, including the actor's own mother."
