At the end of the Landesliga Süd, the sports bowlers from Gut Holz Eberfing won again.

Nevertheless, it was no longer decisive in the table.

Eberfing – Looking at the table in the Landesliga Süd is not easy for the sports bowlers from Gut Holz Eberfing.

At the end of the season, her team is in eighth, third from last place, with a score of 16:20 points, which is by no means bad.

And that means in all likelihood even down the aisle to the district league.

"It's tough," says team spokesman Andreas Gattinger.

It may even hit the fourth from last, the seventh-placed DJK Eichstätt.

That depends on whether SKC Töging-Erharting (as champions of the Bayernliga Süd) makes the leap up in the relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga.

The whole thing also has an impact on black and yellow Schongau.

Eberfinger 5:3 victory in the last national league game

If the ascent is successful, the DJK can stay in.

The reason is the so-called sliding descent.

On the one hand, this ensures that the league strength (ten teams) always remains the same.

On the other hand, this has the consequence that - depending on how many teams are relegated from a top division and which season they are assigned to - the number of relegations can vary.

On the last day of the game, the Eberfinger fought a long-distance duel with the Eichstätt team for seventh place.

The Eberfinger had to catch up on team points (comparable to the goal difference in football).

In this context, Gut Holz was hoping for neighbors FC Seeshaupt, who played for Eichstätt in the season finale.

But the Seeshaupters had to do without two regular players for work-related reasons, which was reflected in a 1:7 defeat.

So their 5:3 home win over TSV Baar-Ebenhausen didn't help the Eberfingers.

Ultimately, the Gut-Holz players were four team points short of overtaking the Eichstätt team in the table.

With 3308 wood, the Eberfinger delivered another remarkable performance.

That was also necessary, because the third-placed player from the district of Pfaffenhofen/Ilm didn't play badly either with 3280 wood.

The number of wood ultimately decided the outcome of the game, because the direct duels ended in a 3:3 tie.

In the starting pairings, Gattinger showed a fine performance with 590 wood (197 in clearing).

He had Klaus Kiesewetter (537) under control in all four sets.

The duo Tobias Zahler/Matthias Lange (542/2:2) meanwhile lost out to Christian Kopold (558).

A race to catch up in sets three and four ended unsuccessfully.

In the middle pairings, Alois Kriesmair (562) easily scored a team point, although Christoph Kiesewetter (517) narrowly won the first two sets.

Hubert Resch (531) had the upper hand over Tobias Braunstein (527), who had the same sentence.

In the last round, when Resch weakened during the game, things got exciting again.

In the final pairings, Baar-Ebenhausen – winners 8-0 in the first leg – still tied the team points.

Eric Kühberger (557/1:3) had to admit defeat to a well-playing Michael Königer (565).

Markus Lindner (526/0.5:3.5), who clearly lost to Matthias Gärtner (576), had a black day by his standards.

Rounds two and three were decisive.

The first set ended in a draw (139:139), in the last round Lindner lost by just one wood difference.

As it currently looks, "we've been relegated," says Gattinger.

In view of the course of the season "it's bitter".

After the eighth game day (and a 5:3 against Bobingen II) Eberfing was at the top of the table with 12:4 points.

After that, however, it continued seven defeats in a row.

"I don't know that I've ever come close to experiencing something like this in my career," says Gattinger, who has been a bowler for more than 50 years.

Various defeats came about unluckily because the opponent as a whole or individual players were in exceptionally good shape that day.

An example: In the 0:8 against SG Steppach, the hosts played a team record on their track with 3412 wood.

"We feel like we belong in the national league," says Gattinger.

As for the wood numbers, the stats back up the feeling.

Among other things, the Eberfinger have achieved the best away result this season (3500 wood; in Schwabmünchen).

When it comes to staying up in the league, the Boar Fingers are not giving up hope.

Rumor has it that SG-MBB Augsburg (a relegated team from the Bayernliga Süd) is withdrawing.

So there may still be an opportunity to stay in the state league.
