Ironically, such sports bowlers, who had to fight with their teams in the league, caused a sensation at the Upper Bavarian Sprint Championship.

District – With the “Sprint” discipline (2 x 20 throws), the series of Upper Bavarian individual championships has begun.

The competitions for women (in Schongau) and men (in Weilheim) each took place in the district.

Striking: The medal winners here all came from teams that hadn't done so well during the team season.

Petra Heinfling secures silver for women

In the quarter-finals, Petra Heinfling had won the “Sudden Victory”, but it didn't work out in the final.

At 11:16, the sports bowler from FC Seeshaupt lost out to Ramona Wasmaier (SV Mehring).

Heinfling was denied the crowning glory, but like Wasmaier, she qualified for the Bavarian title fights.

Heinfling, who had to accept relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga with the women's team of FC Seeshaupt this year, definitely deserved gold.

Because in the final she played the highest result of the entire knockout round with 182 wood.

Wasmaier meanwhile came up with 173 wood.

However, only the set points count in the sprint.

And there it was after two rounds 1:1.

In the "Sudden Victory" the number of wood plays a role - Wasmaier was just ahead.

For Petra Heinfling it was the third sprint medal within a short period of time: most recently she had won bronze (2021) and gold (2022/as a qualification for the current championship) in the "Zuspitze" district.

There hasn't been a sprint championship in the district since Corona.

Tight decisions in sudden victory

Third place this year went to the Chiemgau district: Magdalena Siferlinger (SKK Bad Endorf) won the duel for bronze without a fight after Sonja Heinfling (SKC Krün) had to pass out injured after her semi-final defeat against Wasmaier.

In the quarter-finals, the “sudden victory” had to decide on progress in three of the four duels.

Petra Heinfling prevailed against Heidi Gerbl (SKC Surheim) with 22:19.

The qualification, in which the pairings for the knockout round were determined based on the respective placement, was won by Siferlinger with 197 wood ahead of Petra Kräh (195/FC Seeshaupt) and Manuela Predinger (181/SV Aschau).

Petra Heinfling (180) took fourth place, the later winner Wasmaier (171) was seventh.

Robert Leonhart triumphs in the men's sprint

During the team season, Robert Leonhart had little reason to be happy: the Schwarz-Blau Burggen team didn't win a point in the district league.

The climber had to be relegated as the bottom of the table.

It went all the better for Leonhart as a single player in the sprint: After silver at district level, he now won the district title.

In the final he defeated Hubert Resch from SKC Gut Holz Eberfing (probably relegated from the state league) with 2:0 sets.

In the first round, both showed a high level, Leonhart was just ahead with 99:98 wood.

In the second set, Resch was clearly ahead after ten shots (54:44), but Leonhart countered by clearing the ball (34:17) and thus secured the title.

Both finalists qualified for the Bavarian championship.

Club duel for bronze

In the fight for bronze, Marcus Wolf from Schwarz-Gelb Schongau prevailed against his club colleague Thomas Feuchtinger with 2:0 sets (180:166).

Both still hope to stay in the Bayernliga Süd with their team - the decision will be made in the promotion games to the 2nd Bundesliga (we reported).

The result there has an impact on the composition of the leagues in the Free State.

The semifinals were both decided in sudden victory.

Leonhart won 18:17 against Wolf, in the other duel Resch won against Feuchtinger 16:12.

Resch played an overly long overtime in the quarter-finals against Pascal Schouten (FC Seeshaupt): It was only after various additional throws to the obligatory three boosts that the winner was certain – Resch won 40:37.

Leonhart had won the qualification with 192 wood ahead of Resch (187) and Manuel Brosig (Waldkraiburg/186).

The qualifying first had to play against the sixteenth, Andreas Welsch (TSV Peißenberg/122), in the round of 16.

Leonhart only won the knockout duel in the "Sudden Victory" (16:12).

Pascal Schouten (FC Seeshaupt) achieved the highest individual result of the day: In his 2-0 win in the round of 16 against Stephan Heinfling (SKC Krün), he shone with 209 wood (96 in clearing).

In the first set, Schouten played a whopping 114 wood, with a clearing result of 53 wood.
