In a replay of the Champions League quarter-finals from last season, Real Madrid will host Chelsea this evening (Wednesday) for the first of two games in the battle for the ticket to the semi-finals of the top European competition.
After the drama of last season, when Chelsea were already on their way to the next stage with a stunning 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu, Rodrigo and Karim Benzema scored in extra time to put the Blancos into the semi-finals en route to a 14th win in the big-eared trophy.
In a rather disappointing season for the European champion in the local framework, when it is on its way to losing the championship to Barcelona, Carlo Ancelotti's players want to continue to shine in the factory where they excel year after year, possibly on the way to a meeting with Manchester City, who defeated Bayern Munich 0:3 yesterday.
The Italian chose to go up with Eduardo Camabinga in the left back position, while Federico Valverde, who was busy last week mainly with the events surrounding his attack on Alex Bana, went up in the lineup and together with Vinicius, Rodrigo and Benzema will try to close a story already in the game in Spain.
Frank Lampard will play his second game for Chelsea since returning to coach the Blues until the end of the season, and after a disappointing loss to Wolves, he will try to lift the spirits of the fans of the London team with a good result at the Bernabeu. The Englishman started with a formation of 5 in defense, with Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva and Wesley Popana were placed in the center of defense.
Angolo Kante, who excelled against Real two years ago in the Blues' Champions League win, came up together with Enso Fernandez and Mateo Kovacic, with Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix trying to surprise Thibaut Courtois.
