François Gabart announced this Wednesday that it is not him but Tom Laperche who will take the start of the new solo round the world trip in Ultim scheduled for January 2024 from Brest.
The 25-year-old sailor, winner of the last Solitaire du Figaro, will therefore take the helm of the giant, flying trimaran SVR Lazartigue, which has just joined the Ultim class after modifications are underway to bring it into line.
“
Tom has an extraordinary talent and he is capable of competing in this round the world race.
It's a carefully considered choice
,” explained François Gabart.
“
It's a huge challenge, the road isn't easy but I'm happy to be able to count on the experience of François and the team
,” added Tom Laperche.
