Thanks to the victory over Real Madrid in the final round of the Euroleague, and the corresponding loss of Fenerbahçe against Red Star Belgrade, Maccabi Tel Aviv already found out this evening (Thursday) that its opponent in the playoff series will be Monaco.
The team from the principalities reached the elimination round knowing that they would finish in fourth place, and following the results of the evening, the Yellows reserved fifth place for themselves.
This will be the first time in history that the two clubs will meet in a playoff series, and not surprisingly since the French team only started playing in the Euroleague last season and reached the playoffs for the second year in a row.
The teams have met four times in the last two years, with each team winning twice at home.
If this balance continues, Monaco has the home advantage and the opportunity to reach the Final Four for the first time in the club's history.

After their great success last season, with Sasha Obrodovic on the lines, and Mike James as the big star, Monaco underwent a serious facelift.
The team's shopping list included Eli Okobo and Mathieu Strazl from Muilervan, John Brown who last year played in Kazan with Lorenzo Brown, Jordan Lloyd from Zenit, Alfa Diallo and Jaron Blosomgeim from Ulm, ex-City Nahariya.
During the season, the team added Chima Monka from Sacramento, and they joined James, the Lithuanian Dontas Motuinas and the American Donta Hall in the interior positions and the guard-forward Jakuba Avtera.
Although recently suspended from the team, James is still Monaco's big star with 16.6 points per game.
Besides him, three other players score in double figures - Okubo registers 12.8 points, Lloyd 12.1 and Diallo with 11. Motions with 9, Hall with 8 and Brown with 5.6 contribute in the face positions.
