Domantas Sabonis, a Sacramento Kings player from the NBA and the Lithuanian national team and known as the son of former star Arvydas Sabonis, is undergoing a conversion process that includes keeping Shabbat, kosher and studying with a rabbi.
The 26-year-old Sabonis will lead Sacramento starting this weekend in the first round of the playoffs against the Golden State Warriors, and the one who surprised with the news about the conversion procedure he is going through was his Jewish wife Shoshana, who spoke to the magazine "jweekly": "We have not discussed it publicly until today, But he loves Judaism and really wants to be a part of it."

Sabonis studies using the "Zoom" application with Rabbi Erez Sherman from Los Angeles, who also told about the process the Lithuanian is going through: "After his triple-double against Houston, he wrote to me, 'Hey, when can we have a lesson?'. He keeps asking questions , he keeps kosher and when he is in Vilnius he buys chicken at a kosher butcher shop."
His wife Shoshana, who grew up in Los Angeles and attended a Jewish school, added: "We keep kosher on Passover, we don't drive on Shabbat, we have a Shabbat meal and keep Shabbat completely. He sometimes has to fly and do other things, but he continues to study, and I think it's a great joy for the community The Jewish people see him as representing them."
And what about the playoff series?
Shoshana is confident that her husband will lead Sacramento to victory in a series that will last six games.
