2023-04-14T14:54:27.223Z

The Parisian edition promises to be more selective than the previous ones, with only 45,000 volunteers recruited. There are less than three weeks left to apply.

The enthusiasm is very strong, both in France and internationally!

Alexandre Morenon-Condé, head of the “Paris 2024 volunteer program”, does not hide his enthusiasm as registrations flood in to be part of the 45,000 volunteers who will deploy at the Summer Olympics next year.

There are less than three weeks left to show up, the application platform closing on May 3.

The Parisian edition promises to be "

spectacular, lasting and unforgettable

" for the "

volunteers

", he adds.

The term was chosen by the Olympic Committee for the Olympic Games (OCOG) to designate occasional sports volunteers, in order to distinguish them from a long-term associative commitment.

The number of volunteers may seem colossal, however it should be put into perspective compared to previous editions.

They were 80,000 in Tokyo in 2021, 50,000 in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, 70,000 in London in 2012... Alexandre Morenon-Condé explains this difference by the "

unique concept of Paris 2024

".

The number of disciplines, Olympic sites, athletes is different from one edition to another.

The appearance of the capital and the competition spaces are also unique, they are more condensed

“, he adds.

Unlike London in 2012, volunteers recruited by the OCOG will only be deployed at the competition sites.

The cities and departments concerned will have their own volunteers outside the sports facilities.

The City of Paris has thus announced that it wants to hire nearly 5,300 volunteers, who will guide tourists from public transport to the Olympic venues.

“Helpful” volunteers

"

When a person gives his time, he must feel useful

", pleads the head of the volunteer program to justify the limited number of volunteers.

"

The ambassador must feel concerned, so we have precisely defined the missions and the workforce for each competition site

", he explains, underlining their importance in the success of the Games: "

The volunteer is the first person an athlete, a delegation or a spectator sees is the face of Paris 2024.

Some 75 missions, classified into three main categories, are entrusted to volunteers, for around forty competition sites.

The first concerns reception, orientation and information – the volunteer can, for example, validate tickets at the entrance to the stadiums, guide spectators in the stands or inform them about the various competition venues.

The second corresponds to the missions of sports service and assistance to the athletes – the volunteer will be able to pick up the tennis balls, time the events or even give the medals to the winners.

Finally, the third concerns the tasks of organization and distribution – the volunteer will be able to process journalists' accreditation requests, install communication posters or distribute official uniforms to volunteers.

all missions that presented a physical or psychological security risk, such as security checks at the entrance to stadiums

The volunteering program must reflect France.

It starts with an innovative application process (personality questionnaire, editor's note) to working on the uniforms (manufactured by the French brand Decathlon, editor's note)

", explains Alexandre Morenon-Condé, who explains "

draw lessons from what has already been done previously to draw inspiration from it or, on the contrary, to improve on it

".

"

I want to offer them the best possible experience

", says the man who himself volunteered at the Athens Olympics in 2004. "

I remember an unforgettable experience and a very strong moment

", he testifies. .

Alexandre Morenon-Condé does not specify how many applications have been submitted to date in Paris, however the competition should be tough.

Tokyo had received more than 200,000, and London and Rio, more than 240,000.
