On Sunday, April 16th, the 35th edition of the cycle race around Burggen will take place.

According to the start list, there is more going on than ever before.

Burggen – Next Sunday, April 16th, there will be plenty of pedaling in Burggen.

The program includes the races for the "Burggener Strassenpreis", which, like last year, is part of the "Tour de Allgäu".

Before that, the stage race stops in Schweinlang.

In the district of Kraftisried (Ostallgäu district) things start on Friday with a mountain time trial.

A circuit race follows on Saturday.

The organizing Concordia Burggen is expecting more than 330 participants from all over Germany and neighboring countries for the final stage in Burggen with start and finish on St.-Anna-Strasse.

Well over 300 drivers have registered

"That means a record number of participants," says Concordia boss Konrad Sanktjohanser happily.

An eight-kilometre-long circuit with the poisonous ten percent climb up to Tannenberg as the centerpiece awaits the starters from Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria.

"It will demand everything from the racing drivers," Sanktjohanser is convinced.

The main race is over 120 kilometers

The 35th edition of the traditional race in Burggen opens at 10 a.m. with the “Jedermannklasse”, which covers 40 kilometers.

"Anyone who wants to can get a taste of the racing atmosphere with a starting number on their back," says Sanktjohanser.

Within this competition there is also a women's ranking.

One of the contenders is local hero Daniela Höfler, who is otherwise mainly active in the mountain bike sector and has already worn the Germany jersey at World Cup races.

Afterwards, the youth of the U17s, who run their own "Tour de Allgäu", will also be sent on a 40-kilometer race.

From 11:15 a.m. onwards, numerous top Bavarian drivers will be at the start in senior classes 2 and 3 (over 41 years of age).

Mountain bike ace Martin Hollerbach, Stephan Pindl and Marc Walter are in action in Concordia Burggen jerseys.

The seniors 4 (over 61 years of age) who start afterwards also have three local drivers, the multiple winner Christof Franiak, Alexander Paterek and Walter Marquardt.

After the senior races, the pros from the continental teams and the elite amateurs start the main race from 1:30 p.m.

This runs over 15 laps, which means that the top drivers have to cover 120 kilometers.

"There's plenty of exciting cycling going on there," says Sanktjohanser.

At the "Tour de Allgäu", as with all Grand Tours, jerseys are awarded for the best.

The overall winner receives the yellow jersey, analogous to the "Tour de France".

The winner of the sprint ranking gets a red jersey, in addition there is a dotted jersey (mountain ranking) and a white jersey (best young driver).

Also at the start is last year's winner Jan Hugger, who wants to defend the title with his "Lotto Kernhaus" team.

The Concordia association will take care of the physical well-being of the spectators with numerous helpers in the start and finish area.

A tent has been set up especially for this purpose.
