After investigating the intentional loss of the Dallas Mavericks to the Chicago Bulls last week, the NBA announced this evening (Friday) that it had fined the Texan team $750,000 for "conduct detrimental to the league" and violating player rest rules.

As you may remember, the Mavs decided to sit aside Kyrie Irving, Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Green, Christian Wood and Maxie Cleaver in a game that was their last chance to qualify for the play-in tournament, in order to maintain a chance to choose one of the top ten spots in the upcoming draft.

Some of these players were designated as injured and others were rested.

A sad end to a failed season.

Before that game, coach Jason Kidd said the suspension of five key players was an "organizational decision," which he attributed to owner Mark Cuban and professional manager Nico Harrison.

"Dallas proved in its actions and public statements its desire to lose the game on purpose in order to improve its chances of keeping the first round draft pick," explained the league's management of the decision.

NBA Vice President Joe Dumars criticized: "The Dallas Mavericks' decision to disable key players in an important elimination game damages the integrity of our industry. The Mavericks' actions have failed the fans and the league."
