Wahi, the quadruple for history

A quadruple at just 20 years old.

The performance is historic but not sure that the striker is satisfied with the result (Lyon 5-4 victory against Montpellier).

Because everything had started well for the player trained at the club: an express double (39th and 41st) before the break, taking advantage of two consecutive errors by Johann Lepenant, his teammate in the hopes.

Returning from the locker room, not satisfied, Wahi again tormented the Rhone rearguard and obtained a penalty which he transformed without trembling (53rd).

Almost on the engagement, he beat Anthony Lopes and went to score a fabulous quadruple in the empty goal (55th).

Ligue 1 had not seen this since a certain Kylian Mbappé in 2018 against… OL!

Close to the quintuplet (73rd), he then gave way to Valère Germain (80th) and watched helplessly as his family sank.

He can console himself by looking at the ranking of scorers, he is well placed with 17 goals scored.

Lacazette, the General in power

A new boss match for the General.

Since his return to France, Alexandre Lacazette has carried the Lyon attack at arm's length.

Assisted in this return phase by an increasingly impressive Bradley Barcola and author of three assists for his eldest this Sunday, the striker displays dizzying statistics.

After this historic quadruple, the first of his career, he is now top scorer in the championship with 24 goals.

We must also salute his permanent commitment and his behavior as a leader when it was necessary to remobilize a completely amorphous team.

His four goals are models of the genre and it took guts to pierce the right corner of Benjamin Lecomte after additional time from a penalty he had obtained himself.

The historical scenario

What a match the fans of Groupama Stadium and the viewers experienced!

From 1-0 for OL in the 32nd to 1-4 for Montpellier in the 55th, we already had to see it coming.

And that was only the beginning !

The Lyonnais came back into the game and equalized after goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Dejan Lovren (59th, 71st, 82nd).

The final bouquet only arrived after additional time (99th) for a 5-4 victory!

This scenario is reminiscent of an OM-Montpellier of August 1998, which has also gone down in history.

From 0-4 at the break to 5-4 in the 90th minute, the Olympians had managed an extraordinary comeback.

That evening, a wink of fate, the winning penalty was scored by a certain Laurent Blac, the current Rhone coach.

FLOPS

Lepenant's Nightmare

This Sunday afternoon will remain in everyone's memory except perhaps that of Johann Lepenant, because the young Lyon midfielder had an ordeal.

Involved in the opener for his team, he then made two errors in quick succession which cost dearly.

He first loses a ball in his 30 meters, immediately sanctioned with the equalizer of Elye Wahi (39th).

On the following action, he misses his clearance and Wahi always takes the opportunity to score a double (41st).

Released when his team was trailing 1-4 (58th), he followed the crazy rise of his team from the sidelines.

Notably, he cut off a very dangerous Montpellier counter-attack (49th).

The shipwreck of Jullien

His team conceded five goals and he is largely responsible for that.

Subscribers absent on most Lyon goals, he, like his teammates, completely got through.

Alexandre Lacazette made him experience an ordeal and even pushed him to fault after additional time.

By surrounding the Lyon captain and conceding a penalty (99th), he made this match go from totally crazy to historic.

The porosity of defenses

After this crazy match, we must congratulate the attackers.

But we must not forget to point the finger at the defenses.

With 9 goals scored, this meeting is the most prolific of the season in Ligue 1 and the respective rear guards are no strangers to it.

Elye Wahi exploited every Lyon error (those of Johann Lepenant and Dejan Lovren) and Bradley Barcola swept through the MHSC defense with ease.

The goalkeepers did not shine either... It must be said that the attackers, whether Elye Wahi or Alexandre Lacazette, showed composure and displayed impressive efficiency in any event.
