Yaron Roth (49), the eldest son of Esther Roth Shahamorov, Israel's greatest athlete of all time, winner of the Israel Prize for Sport and Physical Education (1999), a survivor of Munich 1972, appeals to the general public in Israel to find people who will agree to donate a kidney to his mother.
A few days ago, Roth Shahamorov was hospitalized at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva and is coping with the rejection of the kidney transplanted into her body 14 years ago. Roth Shahamorov needs a repeat transplant.
Yaron Roth, former Israeli fencing champion and bronze medalist at the European Youth Under-20 Championships, said today: "My mother suffers from severe kidney failure, and she needs a repeat kidney transplant to save her life. We in the family suffer from genetic kidney disease of polycystic kidneys and therefore unfortunately we cannot donate a kidney to it. On behalf of the Roth Shahamorov family, I appeal to the citizens of Israel and ask that a kidney donor be found for my mother, Esther Roth Shahamorov, so that she can return to normal life and full functioning."
Who can donate? Any person over the age of 27, with no pre-existing conditions, who was not born prematurely, an overweight person whose BMI value is less than 29, and women who have finished giving birth and did not have gestational diabetes. The process will be accompanied by Gift of Life headed by Rebbetzin Rachel Haber, recipient of the Israel Prize (2023) for Lifetime Achievement for her special contribution to society and the state, who founded the association and encourages help for patients in need of a kidney by donating a kidney from a living person.
When contacting the organization's offices, it is important to note that the donation is intended for Esther Roth Shahamorov
