French food service company Sodexo, which is responsible for catering at the athletes' village for the 2024 Paris Olympics, is expected to serve about 40,000 meals each day at the Games. "France will invite the world to its table," said catering director Philippe Wirtz. "The athletes know they will eat well here – our goal is to provide them with high-quality food." The chefs who prepared the menu ensured the food would be "fun, gourmet and healthy". The interesting detail is that no wine or other alcohol will be served during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The main dining area in the Olympic Village is expected to have 3,500 seats. At the same time, athletes will be able to use grab-and-go points, including one dedicated to French cuisine. "What I've cooked here is chicken, because it's roasted slowly with a nice, very limited sauce," explained head chef Amdin Cheino, owner of Parisian restaurant La Pouliche and executive chef at The Rosewood restaurant in London. The Olympic Village is also supposed to have a bakery producing traditional French baguettes, croissants and other pastries.
Chef Alexandre Mazzia, who runs the three Michelin stars "AM par Alexandre Mazzia" in Marseille, showcased his recipe for hummus with herbs and smoked fish sauce. Other foods expected to be on the menu include risotto, quinoa and raspberry chocolate mousse.
More than 500 items will be available and designed to satisfy special diets, eating habits and religious beliefs. Meals will use seasonal products and a third of the food offered will be plant-based. All meat, dairy products and eggs will be French-made. Imported foods such as bananas and rice will be organically produced or Fairtrade certified. Organizers will also try to make the village dining hall reflect the traditional experience of French food.
