Ex-biathlon star Mari Eder, who recently ended her long career, confessed to some heart problems shortly after her retirement.

Thalgau – A few weeks ago, biathlete Mari Eder ended her career. "Although the end of the season was marked by health problems, I am glad that I chose this path again last spring and did it my way. Thanks to passion and hard work, I got back to the best shape of my life and was at the forefront of the World Cup," she wrote on Instagram at the time.

Biathlon: Eder admits heart problems

However, she admitted to herself that she never made it to the absolute top of the world. "Like every elite athlete, I dreamed of winning a medal. In the end, however, I have to admit that my skills, my work performance or my talent were not enough for this. Although I came close to 4th place in the World Cup in my best time, we have to be honest that I was often far too far away," continues Eder, who now wants to devote herself to other things outside of biathlon.

In the weeks following her resignation, however, she had to cut back. "Unfortunately, I had some heart problems towards the end of the season, so the biggest challenge last month was not being allowed to move or do any sports. Normally, I also enjoy phases without training, but it was a change," said the Finns in an interview with Biathlonworld.com, the website of the IBU.

"I started renovating our new store and realized how much I missed physical activity, so I had to completely readjust, come up with new thoughts and ideas. Slowly working out has been a hard but very efficient way to give my life a new direction," the 35-year-old continued.

Biathlon: Eder with precise plans for the future

Now, however, the former biathlete can enjoy life again. "We went on vacation to Mexico, or actually honeymoon! We got married five years ago, but never had time. Luckily we still like each other, so we're now enjoying a few weeks in the sun," she said of her holiday with her husband Benjamin.

The 35-year-old already has precise plans for the future: "Last year we developed plans for a sports shop, and the plan was and is that I will work there when we open it here in Thalgau in October. I will also work with my previous sponsor, the supplier Noname, in Austria." (smr
