Hope for Choupo-Moting? Bayern striker returns to team training

Can Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting still help Bayern in the final spurt of the season? The striker trained with the team again on Wednesday.

Munich – There are still three matchdays left in the current Bundesliga season. Three matchdays on which FC Bayern can secure their eleventh championship in a row. And on their own, as the Munich team leads the table with one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund. In the final spurt of the season, the record champions could fall back on a striker that many no longer expected. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting returned to training with his colleagues on Wednesday.

The past few weeks have been anything but easy for Choupo-Moting. First, the Hamburg native was absent due to back problems, and shortly afterwards it was knee problems that forced him to watch. Under his new coach Thomas Tuchel, who already coached him in Mainz and at PSG, he was therefore only used three times.

The Cameroon international, who was in danger of being sidelined until the end of the season, could now become important again. In the last three games against Schalke 04, RB Leipzig and 1. Choupo-Moting, who has already scored ten times in his 18 Bundesliga games this season and set up two more goals, can probably hope to make appearances.

Because on Wednesday morning he trained again with the team, according to a club announcement he completed parts of the session with his team. He was involved in the warm-up with his colleagues as well as in game forms, and the 34-year-old also continued his individual build-up programme on a side pitch on Säbener Straße.

Choupo-Moting is not the only Bayern player to recover from an injury. Dayot Upamecano, for example, returned to the training ground on Tuesday after tearing his muscle. Josip Stanisic, who also tore a fibre in his left adductor area, also returned to running training.

Will FC Bayern be able to rely on goalgetter Choupo-Moting in the final games of the season?

At the moment, no Bayern player can really fill the role of striker. Serge Gnabry, who scored twice in the last two games against Hertha BSC and Werder Bremen, was still the most conspicuous Choupo Moting representative. Sadio Mané, on the other hand, has been more conspicuous in recent games with missed scoring opportunities, while Tuchel decided against giving young striker Mathys Tel a real chance.
