Former figure skater Roman Kostomarov recently had to have his feet and fingers amputated. Now he spoke out for the first time since his admission to the hospital.
Moscow - The last four months have been a martyrdom for Roman Kostomarov. The figure skater and 2006 Olympic champion was hospitalized on January 10 with severe pneumonia, and he also complained of weakness and chest pain. After sepsis and necrosis were detected, the Russian had to have two feet and fingers on his left hand amputated. Now he spoke up again for the first time.

Roman Kostomarov: Figure skater speaks out after months in hospital
For weeks, the 46-year-old fought for his life and, in addition to amputations, also resisted cerebral hemorrhages and strokes, as Russian media reported. In addition, he had to be put into a coma in February. After four months in a Moscow hospital, he now addressed his fans with a detailed update on his Instagram channel.
Since January 5, Kostomarov's account had been idle, now he sent a sign of life. "Hello everyone. Thank you to everyone who was worried about me, prayed for me and believed that I would get out of this difficult situation that life gave me," the two-time figure skating world champion wrote.

In his contribution, Kostomarov presented himself with a black hoodie and a black cap, his facial expressions are probably serious in view of his starting position. "There are still many difficulties ahead of me, but I hope that I will overcome everything, thanks to my relatives and doctors who took me from the other world and continue to work with me to this day," he said, adding: "There is a lot of hard work ahead of us."
However, the athlete did not become more specific. With his announcement, Kostomarov could allude to his prostheses, which, according to Russian media, will be provided to him. According to a report by Sport24, there are still complications, as the wounds of the former figure skater are not all said to have healed and need to be treated. It is not yet clear exactly when the native of Moscow will be able to enjoy his artificial feet. (ajr)
