Clarisse Agbégnénou will win her eighth world medal. Qualified Wednesday for the final of the World Judo Championships where she will face Slovenian Andreja Leski, the French seeks a sixth world crown after 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
The two-time Olympic champion had a difficult journey to the final. After brushing aside Serbia's Anja Obradovic in the final seconds of her first round, she was pushed to the Golden Score by Israel's Gili Sharir and Canada's Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard. In the semifinals, she was able to use all her power to place a devastating ippon against the Austrian Lubjana Piovesana and offer herself an eighth final at the World Judo Championships. She will therefore offer a fourth medal to the France after the silver of Shirine Boukli and the bronze of Walide Khyar and Amandine Buchard.
