Biathlon star goes on a bike tour through Italy – even Wierer is blown away

The Czech biathlete Markéta Davidová impressed not only in her home country, but also with her holiday pictures on Instagram.

Prague – On Wednesday evening, the Czech Biathlon Federation invited its protagonists to the presentation of various prizes at Prague's Forum Karlín. In addition to the coach or the young hope of the year, the biathlete of the year was also chosen. For the fifth time, Markéta Davidová was voted the best of her country. Shortly before the award ceremony, she had first embarked on a bicycle tour to Italy – and apparently also made an impression on her competitor Dorothea Wierer.

The fact that Davidová accepted the award again is by no means a coincidence. The 26-year-old won two medals last season, finishing second in the sprint at the World Cup in Hochfilzen and third in the pursuit race. The successes were probably decisive for the honor on Wednesday.

Before the gala in the Czech capital, the athlete from Jablonec nad Nisou in the north of the country had had a few nice days, as her Instagram profile reveals. Apparently, Davidová was in Italy for some time, on Tuesday she shared some photos from her trip with her followers.

"Fancy a holiday in Tuscany" was the title of Davidová's seven-part series of paintings. "Olive jungle everywhere," the World Championship gold medalist wrote under the first photo, in which she grins happily into the camera. Pictures while eating – "My favorite – coffee and cake, the best sport!" – or "sunbathing at the castle" were just as much a part of it as that of a sightseeing tour through the medieval-inspired small town of Siena. Of course, all by bike.

In addition, Davidová also showed himself with an ice cream in Pisa – of course in an oblique pose at the equally leaning tower. The last photo shows her sleeping on a yoga mat. Apparently, the pictures had triggered something in Dorothea Wierer, even though the Italian comes from a completely different corner, namely from Bruneck in South Tyrol. With three smiling emojis with heart-shaped eyes, the four-time world champion reacted to her competitor's holiday pictures. (ajr)
