The European Windsurfing Championships entered its third day in Patras, Greece, with Sharon Kantor retaining first place (out of 90 participants) on Thursday, and even increasing the difference at the top to 12 points, ahead of another Israeli, Tamar Steinberg.
Cantor went out into the water today wearing the blue jersey, which marks the championship leader, and with yesterday's extraordinary day of sailing hovering above her, in which she won all four that took place. The pressure did not leave its mark and she finished today with three wins and another cruise in second place.
She now has only 11 points, and leads Tamar Steinberg, in second place, by 12 points. Steinberg also finished an excellent day of sailing with places 6,21,4,2 and leads by seven points over the world champions, Spardia Piller Madrid, who are in third place. Tomorrow, Cantor will continue to wear the blue jersey and Steinberg the yellow jersey, of second place.
Another Israeli who rose in the rankings today is Shahar Tibi, who after four cruises of the day rose to fourth place overall, with 33 points in her favor. Unlike her teammates, Tibi is a veteran sailor who represented Israel at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, in the 470 boat model, but made the switch to the new surfboard model and is consolidating her status there.
Also in the top twenty, who will try to use the last two qualifying days to enter the top ten, Kati Spichkov is also at No. 13 and Maya Morris at No. 19.
In the men's, Tom Reuveni continues his climb towards the Big Ten, having started the competition very weakly. Today, the Israeli managed to climb five places to 16th place overall, overtaking Tomer Vardimon, in 19th place, and Yoav Cohen, who dropped to 22nd place. The teams have two more qualifying days ahead of them, at the end of which only the top ten will qualify for the medal rounds, which will take place on Sunday and determine the European champions.
