The Israeli judo team concluded the most successful world championships in its history on Saturday. In all previous cases, Israel had one medal in each championship, and in Qatar the number increased to three. Inbar Lanir voiced hope in Doha when she stunned with the gold and was crowned world champion in the under-78 kg category, Peter Palchik picked up the bronze in the under-100 kg category and tonight Raz Hershko joined the list who improved the Israeli achievement with her own bronze medal and celebrated a career highlight.

For judo, this is a significant boost ahead of next year's Paris Olympics, with the medal streak coming in the last two days of individual competition and after a frustrating first five days. The team will not participate in the team competition, where it won the bronze medal in Tokyo and the previous World Championships.

An emotional Raz Hershko said at the end: "I am happy and happy, I would prefer the color of the medal to be different, but I am happy to finish this day on the podium. It is very important for me to dedicate this medal to the residents of the south and to the IDF soldiers who have not turned a blind eye in recent days, this is for you. Thank you to Shani Hershko, the head coach of the national team and my personal coach, Ido Bar and Chelas Chibana. To my amazing family, to my partner Neta and to my sponsors who support me and give me the peace of mind I need: Inx, adidas Israel, adidas Kombat, Offright Lis, Nestle ice creams, superplay."

Coach Shani Hershko: "Raz had a great day, I'm proud of her for her fighting and her tenacity. She managed to pick herself up after losing in the quarterfinals and that proves what materials she is made of. We are concluding a historic world championship for the women's team and for Israeli judo in general, it is simply tremendous and it takes on great importance for us to represent the State of Israel in times like these. I want to thank all the athletes and staff who surround us every day 24/7, and especially the coaches alongside Ido Bar and Charles Chibana."

Chairman of the Judo Association Moshe Ponti: "Raz is a special athlete and a special girl, who proves herself in every competition anew. I'm happy for her and Shani. We had an amazing world championship, and especially these days it was very important for us to bring a little smile to our country and especially to the people of the south. Inbar, Raz and Peter have brought so much respect to our judo, and this is the third time we've had an athlete win a world championship, it's just unimaginable. Credit and compliments deserve to both Hershko and his team, and Oren Smadja and his team for an amazing championship. This team, these athletes and athletes, prove time and time again that there is no such thing as impossible when it comes to Israeli judo. I'm proud of them and happy for them."
