Around 340 children and young people took part in this year's Ski District Cup. The award ceremony in Weilheim was once again well attended — and a great end to the season.

Weilheim – Maximilian Schwarz has not yet won a World Championship medal or even a start in a World Cup race. And yet the ski racer from Hohenpeißenberg was ideally suited as a star guest at the overall award ceremony at the end of the Ski District Cup season. Because the 20-year-old himself provided the best example of what he gave the ski-loving children and young people as a tip.

"Always keep at it, keep accelerating, even if it doesn't work out that way. You can achieve a lot with a strong will," Schwarz said in an interview with young racing drivers on stage. In the past winter, the Hohenpeißenberger had experienced various difficult phases. But the racer from DAV Peißenberg continued, worked tirelessly - and has now been appointed to the B squad of the DSV.

340 participants in the Kreiscup races 2023

For those who want to get to the top, the district cup in the district of Weilheim-Schongau definitely offers a chance to collect their first merits. The racing series once again enjoyed great popularity this year. 340 children and young people from 20 clubs took part. For some years now, clubs and divisions from the northern part of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district have also been eligible to start. This season, the races took place in Ehrwald/Tyrol (giant slalom), Seefeld/Tyrol (giant slalom) and Garmisch-Partenkirchen (slalom and giant slalom).

For the third time in a row, the ski division of TSV 1847 Weilheim won the club ranking. Also for the third time in a row, the Weilheim ski team hosted the award ceremony, which is always a big event. After all, every participant gets a certificate, and there are trophies for the best on top of that. The guests of honour were impressed. With the high number of participants in the races, "you get very dizzy," says Katrin Eissel, the 1st chairwoman of the Skigau Werdenfels. At the same time, she is pleased that so many are enthusiastic about racing skiing.

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß expressed her gratitude to the parents, "who have to spend a lot of money to make this sport possible for their children". And she added: "Dealing with victory and defeat, diligence and team spirit are values for life that are learned in this sport."

The other ranks were occupied by SC Lauterbach (1794), TSV Bernbeuren (1719), SC Murnau (1149) and SC Hohenfurch (1117).
