After quite a few disappointments, the Israeli judo team achieved two medals on Tuesday, with Inbar Lanir winning the world championship in the weight class up to 78 kg, and Peter Palchik winning the bronze medal in the weight class up to 100 kg.
Lanir on an amazing day of fighting, beat her French opponent in Ipon in the final and became the third Israeli to win the title, after Guy Muki and Yarden Jerbi.
Palchik did lose in the quarterfinals due to disqualification in the fight, but won a consolation bout, winning bronze after his opponent in the decisive fight was forced to retire and not compete due to injury.

Lanier faced Poland's Beate Pakot (13th in the world), the bronze medalist from last year's World Championships, for whom she scored 38 seconds to finish en route to the final eight.
In the eighth final, Lanier met Slovenian Patricia Broly, runner-up at the Zagreb Grand Prix two years ago. Lanier pinned her with 2:24 to go and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Lanier's epic day continued in the quarterfinals, with another setback, this time over an opponent from China and on the way to the semifinals.
Here it comes! First medal for Israel. Lanier fell behind against Italian rival Alice Blandi, but equalized in Vasari and won in another bout. She will compete in the final for gold and the prestigious Tour against France's Andrei Chaomeo.
The amazing day ended with a big victory over the French rivals, with an impressive makeover. Nir is the third world champion from Israel, after Guy Muki and Yarden Jerbi.

Palchik's first opponent was Japan's Kentaro Ida (10th in the world), the 25-year-old Tokyo Grand Slam champion this year. The Israeli stunned with a quick reset in 40 seconds at the start of the fight and advanced to the eighth final.
Palchik met Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Niaz Ilyasov in the next fight, a reminder of his country's war against Ukraine. The Israeli achieved a great wazari and advanced to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Palchik lost to an Azeri opponent after being disqualified for an illegal move during the fight. He will try to get the bronze in the consolation house.
Palchik recovered quickly and in the consolation bout he beat his Azeri opponent with Wazari and will fight for the bronze medal.
Palchik's opponent retired, and he won the bronze medal! A wonderful achievement for the Israeli and the national team.
