The EA Schongau has a new coach. He comes from the neighborhood and has a fairly short guest appearance with a league competitor of the EAS behind him.

Schongau – The name of the new coach of EA Schongau has been circulating in the rumor mill for a few days. Since last Tuesday it is official: Stefan Roth will be the new boss of the "mammoths" herd. "The team now has to get used to a new pacesetter on the bench," explained the manager duo at EAS, Matthias Brahmer and Friedrich Weinfurtner, at the presentation of the 43-year-old Peißenberger, who gained his first experience in the Bayernliga with the "River Rats" of ESC Geretsried last season.

Roth's guest appearance in Geretsried was quickly ended for personal reasons

However, Roth had to end this involvement after a few matchdays for personal reasons. "Unfortunately, a situation has arisen in which I can no longer concentrate 100 percent on ice hockey," said the Peißenberg at the time, who had only taken office last spring. However, those responsible for Geretsried had emphasized that Roth and the team were a good match. "Now his head is free again for his passion 'ice hockey' and for EA Schongau," say the EAS managers. Roth often played against Schongau during his playing days in Peißenberg and at EC Peiting. His first coaching position was SC Forst in the 2019/20 Landesliga season before moving to league rivals ESV Burgau for two seasons. "Our new coach is said to have a good knack for promoting young players, which is why he comes to EA Schongau at just the right time," the manager duo is quoted as saying in a statement. Brahmer and Weinfurtner are looking forward to Roth, who works as a teacher at the middle school.

EAS management praises the work of Roth's predecessor Markus Ratberger

Weinfurtner and Brahmer also expressly thanked Markus Ratberger, who took over EAS after the surprising departure of Rainer Höfler last December. "Markus stepped in at short notice with a lot of commitment and he brought the season to a successful conclusion," explained the manager duo. After a third place in the main round, the EAS easily reached the championship round. In the play-off, however, the "Mammoths" had to admit defeat to their neighbours from Peißenberg in two games (1:2, 4:7).

Lautenbacher stays, Holzmann leaves

As far as squad planning for the 2023/24 season is concerned, these are only just beginning. What is certain so far is that captain Jonas Lautenbacher will remain with the Schongauers. Daniel Holzmann, on the other hand, is looking for a new challenge and moves to neighbours EC Peiting in the Oberliga.
