  • Ice Hockey World Championship: Germany vs. USA, Monday, May 15, 15:20 p.m.
  • DEB team leads after two-thirds and still loses
  • USA disappoint for long stretches and turn the game around in the final third.
  • This live ticker will be updated continuously.

Conclusion: Germany dominates the first two thirds of this game, but still does not manage to take advantage of the many chances. Once again, the DEB team can keep up with a top team of this World Cup in any case. The fact that in the end no points go to the account of the troops of national coach Kreis, has mainly to do with the poor use of chances. The US, however, is not doing more than necessary. A good third is enough for the U.S. boys, in which they were able to increase their pressure significantly and thus collect the next three points.

60th minute: The game is over. Germany also loses its third World Cup match.

Germany 2-3 USA

Goals:Ronald Attard (27th), Samuel Soramies (31st), Justin Schütz (40th), Sean Farrell (47th), Matt Coronato (56th)

59th minute: Germany tries everything again and now plays without a goalkeeper. However, the balance has not yet been achieved. There is still one minute of playing time left.

58th minute: Just over two minutes left. The game is played with high intensity. Germany with a finish that almost ends up in the goal. Only the lucky punch can provide the equalizer in the last moments.

56th minute: In fact, Germany does not manage to survive the power play. Matt Coronato meets the renewed leadership of the USA, which, unlike Germany, can use the majority for itself.

54th minute: Moritz Seider gets a time penalty. The U.S. in crunch time now considered having a power play. Germany is facing an extremely difficult final phase.

50th minute: Germany tries to break free. However, in contrast to the first two thirds, the US has increased significantly. The game is now completely balanced and open.

47th minute: And then it's Sean Farrell who puts a shot on the post, from where the puck bounces into the goal. The U.S. equalizer, which had slowly begun to emerge as the U.S. team had previously increased the pressure by the minute, is not undeserved.

45th minute: Germany continues to hold well against it and has a good opportunity through Tiffels, who does not manage to put the puck in the goal. Nevertheless, Germany plays the counterattack very nicely in front of the opponent's goal.

41st minute: The third period is underway. The U.S. starts with a good finish. Can Germany withstand the increasing pressure from the Americans?

40th minute: Four seconds before the end of the second period, Germany finally rewards itself! Justin Schütz scores his second international goal and tunnels the US keeper in a one-on-one with DeSmith. Just in time for the end of the second period, there is still the deserved DEB lead.

37th minute: Fantastic finish from goalscorer Sami Soramies and almost the second goal for Germany. Very close thing. The DEB team is still in the driver's seat.

36th minute: The USA are on the attack, rotate properly, but Germany keeps order. At the end of this attack, Gawanke clashes with a USA player, but it's not that bad. Germany back in possession of the puck.

34th minute: After the goal, there is a minute and a half of power play by the USA, which Germany survives unscathed thanks to goalkeeper Niederberger. The keeper reacts quickly to two dangerous shots. Now there is a tie on the ice again.

32nd minute: Toooooor for Germany. In the four-on-four situation, Samuel Soramies uses the rebound, because DeSmith can only block a shot from Müller. So now the more than deserved compensation.

31st minute: But now the first penalty for Germany. The surplus situation is thus leveled out for the time being. But soon there will be the first power play for the USA.

30th minute: Next power play for Germany, who have the game almost completely under control. However, this match cannot be won without goals. This is hackneyed wisdom, but it is still true. So now another way to score a hit.

27th minute: Goal for the USA. Ronald Attard takes the lead with a deflected shot that unluckily bounces onto the blades of Kai Wissmann. For the first time, the USA noticeably increased the pressure on the German goal and were immediately successful.

25th minute: Germany noticeably increases the tempo and finally get a shot on goal through Seider, who again does not fidget in the net. The power play is now over. Once again, the DEB team is unable to convert the outnumbering situation into a goal - annoying.

23rd minute: Now the third power play for Germany. Carter Mazur has to leave the ice. Now it's time for Germany to score!

21st minute: The second period starts and Germany directly with the next finish. The guys from Kreis seem to pick up where they left off in the first third.

20th minute: The score is 0-0 between Germany and the USA at the first half-time. The player of the match so far is goalkeeper Casey DeSmith, who foresees all the ideas of the German offensive and can fend them off. The twelve deals of the DEB team are offset by just four shots from the USA. However, as in the two previous games, Germany cannot reward themselves for their superiority - a clear weakness of the team.

17th minute: Very active game of the German national team. Only Casey DeSmith in goal for the USA prevents the German lead. The DEB team has already fired a total of ten shots on goal. A guided tour would be absolutely deserved by now.

14th minute: Frederik Tiffels fails with a whopping distance to US goalie Casey DeSmith, who can parry the puck well.

11th minute: Nico Sturm has a good opportunity on the power play, but fails to get past the USA keeper.

10th minute: Germany with the first power play of the game. Gawanke slips back on the ice for this situation.

7th minute: Huge opportunity for the USA. Mikey Eyssimont is free in front of goal, but misses very narrowly. Goalkeeper Niederberger with a great save. The first chance for the USA.

4th minute: Germany is wide awake and has not let anything burn so far. No U.S. deal yet. Leon Gawanke, however, scored his first goal, but he did not find his target.

1st minute: Right at the beginning, Germany goes into an offensive four-on-two outnumbering situation, but cannot convert this advantage into a conclusion.

The game begins.

Update from May 15, 15:14 p.m.: National coach Harold Kreis evaluates the upcoming opponent at Sport1. According to the coach, the USA players make "very quick decisions", are "very agile" and have "very, very good individual players". A recipe against the strong opponent is also to keep "the spaces very narrow". Meanwhile, the players are about to enter the ice. In five minutes, Germany's third World Cup match will start.

Update from May 15, 15:01 p.m.: Leon Draisaitl has not yet commented on a possible World Cup participation. The disappointment about the playoff exit predominates at the moment. After the game, Draisaitl was dejected: "It's tough. It's hard to find words right now. (...) It feels like a lost season." The World Championship in Finland could therefore offer the ice hockey star a way to save the season.

Update from May 15, 14:45 p.m.: Already in the preparation for the Ice Hockey World Championships, the USA and Germany met. The U.S. boys won the last duel 6-3. In total, the opponents won the last seven encounters with the DEB team. For the next game, which starts in about half an hour, the past results are irrelevant. Germany would like to create the surprise and ensure the first tournament victory at this World Cup.

Preliminary report: Tampere – The start of the German national ice hockey team at the World Championships in Finland and Latvia has not been successful so far. In the first game, there was a 0-1 defeat against eight-time world champions Sweden. This was followed by a 13-3 defeat to defending champions and hosts Finland on Saturday (4 May). Now follows with the USA the next heavy chunk for the team of national coach Harold Kreis. However, the possible re-nomination of Leon Draisaitl gives hope.

Ice Hockey World Championships: Despite defeats, there is no reason to panic among the German national ice hockey team

Despite the two defeats on the first two matchdays of the Ice Hockey World Championship, the situation of the German national team is by no means dramatic. Germany was able to keep up with both Sweden and Finland and set many good accents of their own. In none of the duels was the DEB team inferior in terms of play. Only one goal separated the team from overtime and a possible victory.

Despite the defeats after the game against Finland, coach Kreis also had praise for his team: "The team played well and self-sacrificingly," and noted: "We are on track in terms of commitment and play." With the USA, however, an even more difficult task now awaits the German selection.

Germany still without Draisaitl at the Ice Hockey World Championship against the USA

The upcoming opponent of the German national ice hockey team in the third game at the Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland and Latvia experienced a dream start. The USA won their opening match against Finland 4-1. This was followed by a thrilling victory against Hungary. With 7:1, the star ensemble of USA coach David Quinn swept the overwhelmed opponents out of the hall. After two games, the USA are at the top of Group A with six points and a goal difference of 11:2. Alex Tuch has scored a total of three tournament goals so far and will pose a major challenge to the German backline.

The third defeat in the third World Cup match is unfortunately not unlikely for the national team. Success would be a big surprise. Nevertheless, even in the event of another defeat, everything would still be possible for the guys from Kreis. In addition, NHL star Leon Draisaitl could soon join the DEB team. The top player was eliminated with his team, the Edmonton Oilers, in the playoffs for the Stanley Cup. A subsequent nomination is possible and is considered likely. On Sunday, sporting director Christian Künast underlined: "Leon Draisaitl is worth it even for a game." However, the encounter with the USA comes too early for Draisaitl.
