SE Freising has to win against league leaders Kirchheimer SC. Florian Bittner explains in an FT interview why he still hopes to make it into the relegation relegation.
Freising – It could be the last Landesliga home game for at least a year. Tonight, the footballers of SE Freising will meet the league leaders Kirchheimer SC at 19.30 p.m., and around 21.15 p.m. – if no treble succeeds – relegation to the district league could be fixed. But why there is still a glimmer of hope, how the training week was and what criteria a coach uses to make his line-up in such moments is what Freising's coach Florian Bittner talks about before the important game.
Mr. Bittner, tough question right at the start: Is this the last Landesliga home game of SE Freising on Friday for the time being?
Hopefully not. That's the short, concise answer.
What makes you positive as a coach?
I'm positive that the attitude in the training sessions this week was incredibly good again. What's more, we've already beaten a championship leader this year with Bruckmühl. Of course, we also have to hope for a Dachau blunder. But we will try to do our homework. Then we'll just see how it turns out.
How do you beat a championship leader?
A bit of luck is part of it. And you also need the necessary self-confidence. We don't have that in abundance at the moment, but you can work on something like that during a game. And it's certainly also a matter of motivation. It's the last home game of the season, so I'm expecting everyone in the team to give it their all and go over the pain threshold.
Do you prepare your team differently for such a match?
To be honest, there is not much else to prepare, and our situation has been like this for a long time. Everyone knows them, everyone must now do everything they can to avoid direct relegation. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to reward ourselves enough in the games.
So now, in the decisive phase of the season, is the pedagogue Florian Bittner in demand?
This has been more or less the case again and again in recent weeks, but it hasn't changed much now. In such games, it will be exciting to see who is in the first eleven.

And how do you decide who to trust today?
This has often been no different in recent duels. Unfortunately, we have some injured players again at the moment, the two Schmuckermeiers, Flo and Christian, will be missing with injuries. With Sebi Thalhammer, I hope that he will be able to play from the start after his shoulder injury. In training this week, a lot of people imposed themselves on themselves this week, showed that they want to play from the start. In the end, this will also be a very short-term decision. A glance in the face at the meeting point or a short conversation about how an individual player feels that day is often enough.
