Last Saturday, in the 6-0 win over Schalke 04, the 33-year-old was allowed to start, promptly scored the opening goal and acted as a "can opener", as president Herbert Hainer noted after the game.

"We opted for Thomas Müller against Schalke – because of the many enquiries," Tuchel alluded to at the press conference ahead of the top game against RB Leipzig (Saturday, 18.30 CET). Of course, this sentence caused many laughs in the packed press parlor on Säbener Straße.

"Leon always has chances to play, but we opted for the more attacking option last time," Tuchel explained: "Also because Thomas appears more often in the penalty area than Ryan Gravenberch. What's good is the way Leon is currently training. Ryan and Leon haven't been able to play recently, so we have to make a tactical and personnel decision. But we're not going to reveal them today."
