For the fifth time in the last six seasons, Manchester City officially won the 2022/23 Premier League title on Saturday, following Arsenal's 1-0 defeat to Nottingham that officially secured the Citizens a ninth title in their history. Pep Guardiola's side watched the Gunners' game knowing that another defeat for Arteta's side would guarantee them the title, and indeed, Arsenal continued their slump in recent cycles, ending the season with another disappointment, drained and exhausted.

Arsenal have been in first place in England for most of the season, already leading by 8 points by a margin of second-placed City, but in recent weeks Arsenal have not withstood the pressure. It started with two consecutive rounds in which they led 0-2 and drew with Liverpool and West Ham, then screwed up at home against bottom-weak Southampton (3-3), then were beaten 4-1 by City in a game this season, in the previous round they were beaten 3-0 at home by Brighton, and today they suffered another defeat as mentioned.

On the other hand, Manchester City have already won 11 consecutive league victories, reached the FA Cup final, reached the Champions League final after a big win over Real Madrid, and Pep's side are showing no signs of slowing down - in another season in which they scored the most goals and conceded the least.

Like Liverpool at the time, this year Arsenal felt City breathing down the back of their necks, winning week after week with impressive consistency, with relentless hunger, with Erling Haaland shattering scoring records, and the Manchester Blues continuing their undisputed dominance of English football – perhaps on the way to a season with a historic treble. Today they were officially crowned the best team in England. Very soon we will know if they are the best team in Europe, and how historic their season is.

And the symbolic statistic: to date, Nottingham have had one win from 11 Premier League games against Arsenal. In the only win, Alfie Haaland scored then (1996) for Nottingham. Tonight his son, Erling Haaland, takes the championship thanks to Forest. The victory also ensured Nottingham stayed in the Premier League for another season, celebrating a double achievement.

Gameplay

19th minute: 0:1 to Nottingham Forest! Odegaard made a huge mistake when he delivered backwards, straight at the feet of Gibbs-White, who led a burst and left it to Owaney, who subdued Ramsdale with a second before Gabriel shut down.
