The tradition is in danger of being turned upside down. As every year, the Trophée des champions, pitting the winner of the Coupe de France (Toulouse this season) against the future Ligue 1 champion (probably Paris Saint-Germain), was to take place abroad during the summer. Scheduled for August 5 at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, this match should however be postponed, according to lesviolets.com and L'Equipe Friday, following the defection of the Thai organizer, the group Fresh Air Festival.
According to the sports daily, the Professional Football League (LFP) should have received nearly 4 million euros for the organization of this event, a record sum for the Champions Trophy that will now have to be negotiated to repair the damage. Contacted by Le Parisien, the LFP has, for its part, not yet wished to communicate officially on the subject.
L'Equipe also evokes a possible postponement of the match to the winter break and a priori in another foreign country. In Asia, in addition to Thailand initially chosen for the 2023 edition, the event had already taken place in China in 2014 (Beijing), 2018 and 2019 (Shenzhen). Last year, in Tel Aviv (Israel), Paris Saint-Germain won the sesame by outclassing Nantes (4-0).
