At the end of a crazy comeback Saturday on the soil of Leinster - led 17-0, the Maritimes won 27-26 -, the Stade Rochelais changed status by being crowned for the second consecutive year. Anything but a coincidence.
A historic double
La Rochelle managed on Saturday one of the most spectacular and hair-raising comebacks of the Champions Cup finals. We have to go back a long way, to 2011, to find a trace of such a reversal of the situation. Led 6-22 at the break, Leinster had overthrown the English Northampton (33-22). This year, Dublin province, who led 17-0 after only twelve minutes (three tries scored), were the victim of a similar scenario in their den at the Aviva Stadium. "We have developed a very interesting culture within the team. It would have been easy to give up in these conditions, and the players did the opposite, praises manager Ronan O'Gara. They made a gigantic effort with 23 men and showed the determination of true champions."
