A day after the disaster in El Salvador, the world media has not covered the tragedy that unfolded on the night between Saturday and Sunday in the Central American country, when 12 people were killed and dozens more injured after being run over and crushed to death in a soccer stadium.
FIFA addressed the tragic event, several players in Spain expressed their condolences, some of the games in the World Cup opened with a minute of silence, but in the Western media the event is quite forgotten.
This was before the play-off quarter-final match between Alianza FC and Club Deportivo at the Estadio Coscatlán in San Salvador, the capital of the country. It is one of the largest stadiums in Central America, with an official capacity of more than 44,000 fans. Due to great pressure from fans, it was decided to close some of the entrances, and fans inside and outside were crushed.

"The El Salvador Football Association expresses its sorrow over the events that took place at the Coscatlán Stadium," the statement said, "We express solidarity with the relatives of those injured and killed in this incident."
The association added that it would open an investigation into the incident and immediately request a report on the incident while suspending the league after Saturday's events, and called for a meeting with the country's security committee. FIFA President Gianni Infantino wrote: "I send my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims who lost their lives following the tragic incidents that took place in El Salvador."
Continental Football Federation CONCACAF has also called for an investigation into the incident. "Fan safety at football matches is of the utmost importance. We will fully support all efforts to clarify what happened and implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future," the statement said.
El Salvador President Nayib Bukele said the National Civil Police and Prosecutor General's Office would conduct a "thorough investigation" into the events at the stadium. "Everyone will be investigated: teams, managers, stadium, league, association, etc. Whoever is guilty will be punished," Bukele wrote on Twitter. It is believed that this is a combination of the sale of fake tickets for the game, which led to a huge amount of fans in one of the stands, as well as incorrect calculation by the organizers and incorrect conduct.

At the same time, the identities of those killed in the incident and the painful stories are also revealed. For example, the state released a video yesterday in which a worried mother searches for her relatives, leads her among the bodies, and she breaks down when she recognizes one of them.
One of those killed was Stephanie Murcia, a mother who protected her daughter in difficult moments, placed her on her shoulders, managed to keep her alive, but died while protecting and saving her. Murcia was a devoted supporter of the team, and her fans flooded her home in mourning and hung club signs around her coffin.
It was also reported that a doctor was a diehard fan of the visiting team, but when she went down to the field to help the opposing team's fans, she wore Alianza's shirt - only for the fans to agree to receive treatment from her and not refuse to be examined by a fan of the rival.
The incident follows a fatal ramming last year that killed 135 spectators at a stadium in Indonesia's East Java in October. Many were crushed as they fled to the exits after police fired tear gas into the crowd.
