Landesliga club Oberweikertshofen introduces Pablo Pigl as head coach. He has played for Türkgücü and Pipinsried and FC Augsburg.

Oberweikertshofen – The search for a new coach for SC Oberweikertshofen is over. On Tuesday evening, the Landesliga club officially introduced the new man with 31-year-old Pablo Pigl.

Head of department Uli Bergmann and Pigl have known each other for a long time from their time together at FC Pipinsried. "He was my preferred candidate," said Bergmann, who was pleased that the signing of Pigl is now in the bag. "I'm delighted that Uli has given me the opportunity to work as head coach for the first time," said Pigl at the presentation.

After completing his bachelor's degree in sports science and economics as a personal and athletics coach in Munich, Pigl, who now works and lives in Munich as a coach, possibly also as a player-coach, would like to advance the team in Weikertshofen. He is also in good spirits regarding the cooperation with assistant coach Alexander Greif, whose contract was extended at the same time.

"Since I still have to get to know the team, I'm obviously dependent on Ali." But he doesn't want to take away a place from any player in the team, Pigl emphasized. "If the team doesn't depend on me as a player, I want to consciously take the step to the sidelines." He doesn't think a storming player-coach makes much sense anyway, because you can judge a game better from the outside.

Born in Hammelburg, he began his career in the youth of Schweinfurt 05 and moved to SpVgg Greuther Fürth as a 16-year-old, for whom he played for three years. This was followed by the move to FC Augsburg, where Pigl signed a contract for the 2nd team, which played in the Regionalliga Bayern. The striker finally rejected the idea of joining a college team in the USA to combine his studies and playing football when he signed a two-year contract with Rot-Weiß Erfurt.

One of Pigl's most successful times was at Türkgücü Munich. With the team, he was not only promoted from the Landesliga Südost to the Bayernliga in 2018, but also made a march through to the Regionalliga Bayern.

In the 2019/20 season, the 1.82-metre-tall striker moved to FC Pipinsried, where he played a major role in the village club's promotion to the regional league as top scorer with 20 goals. In his second year as captain and in his third year as assistant coach, Pigl voluntarily quit FCP in the winter of 22/23 after things went haywire at the club and player-coach Nikola Jelisic was dismissed.

"At that time, my young family was the first thing that came to the fore for me," says Pigl. Three months ago, he became the father of a daughter. Now he is looking forward to the new sporting challenge at SC Oberweikertshofen. Dieter Metzler
