RSGV Moosburg was crowned German champion in football tennis in North Rhine-Westphalia. In previous years, it was "only" enough for second place.

Moosburg – It's particularly nice the first time: The soccer tennis team of the Rehabilitation and Health Sports Club (RGSV) Moosburg finished the German championship in first place for the first time in the club's history at the weekend. RGSV President Martin Hofmair: "I am very proud of my team. After narrowly failing several times in recent years, we were due this year and deserved it."

RGSV Moosburg: Referee Jakob Held injured

With great expectations, the soccer tennis team from the city of three roses went to the German championship in Meinerzhagen (North Rhine-Westphalia) - and withstood the pressure on Friday and Saturday. For the very first time ever, the team was crowned with the national title, after it had "only" reached second place several times in previous years.

However, the RGSV had to deal with some adversities, so that winning the competition was on shaky ground for a long time. Against the reigning champion BSG Oberhausen-Sterkrade 1 (24:15) and last year's strong third TuS Meinerzhagen 1 (22:14), as well as against Hamburg (35:8), Fürth (28:14) and Fürth in Hesse (23:11), they were clearly bosses in the ring. But already against Meinerzhagen 1 - in the fifth of eleven games - RGSV batsman Jakob Held was injured and could no longer participate. In the period that followed, Andi Spendel and Paul Held shared this attacking position, and the Hofmair squad had to shimmy through the twelve-participant tournament with other tactical formations.

RGSV Moosburg: Head-to-head comparison is decisive

"Of course, Jakob Held's absence hit us hard," Hofmair admitted, after all, his performances had been outstanding up to that point. The next games against Espelkamp (25:13) and Holzminden (22:11) were also clear affairs; the subsequent duel with the veterans from Nahbollenbach finally became an endurance test: With Andi Spendel on the offensive, the Moosburg team skilfully maneuvered their way through the game and in the end scored the next two points with 18:16 – as well as afterwards against Weiden (16:14). Against the second team of the hosts from Meinerzhagen, however, the worm was in it, and the Moosburg had little to order in the 11:20 bankruptcy. So the final duel against Oberhausen-Sterkrade 2 had to bring the decision. Here the RGSV team was back on top, won 28:10 and scored the two necessary points for the championship title. Since Moosburg and Meinerzhagen 1 were tied on points at the top of the table, the direct comparison – the RGSV had won it 22:14 – tipped the scales in favor of the Dreirosenstädter.

An extremely happy RGSV president Martin Hofmair, who had also played himself, paid his squad a huge compliment: "This weekend has shown that we really are a real team. All eight players were important building blocks for this championship. Despite the injury concerns, we fought our way through the tournament, had to cope with setbacks and still deserved to win the title." Next year's German championship will take place on May 10 and 11 in Hamburg. Ft
