Aston Martin is building a team to win in F1. This is a further step forward. We share with Honda the same determination and ambition to win. I am very confident that we will have a very capable engine," Martin Whitmarsh, managing director of Aston Martin Performance, told an online press briefing.

«

One of the main reasons why we took on this challenge in F1 is that motorsport's premier class is aiming for carbon neutrality, a path Honda also wants to follow. And this collaboration will allow us to facilitate the development of our electric technologies," Toshihiro Mibe, CEO of Honda, said in a statement.

Aston Martin, which made a superb start to the season by occupying second place in the constructors' standings behind the untouchable Red Bull, is currently powered by Mercedes.

«

To be able to beat our opponents, we need to be more independent and end the collaboration with Mercedes. Mercedes is still a great partner but we also want to win so that's why we made this decision," Whitmarsh said.

For now, Honda, which officially left F1 at the end of the 2021 season, is still present in the series as part of an agreement running until the end of the 2025 season to provide technical assistance in the development of engines for the Red Bull and Alpha Tauri teams.

But from 2026, the two teams will be associated with the American manufacturer Ford. On this date, the engines, already hybrid since 2014, will see a significant increase in electrical energy and will use 100% sustainable fuels.

In addition to Honda and Ford, another big name in motorsport, Germany's Audi, is also expected in 2026 for its debut in the premier category of motorsport. He will be associated with the Sauber team (now Alfa Romeo).

Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault (Alpine), currently three of the four engine manufacturers present in the championship, will also be present at the start of the season.
