Riga/Tampere – With an unchallenged 5-0 win over France, the German national ice hockey team crowned its run of four victories on Tuesday (23 May) to reach the quarter-finals of a World Cup for the fourth time in a row. Germany vs Switzerland – Memories of the 2021 quarter-finals come alive

On Wednesday morning (24 May), the DEB team will travel from Tampere, Finland, to Riga, as the match will take place in the Latvian capital. The Swiss, who already completed the group stage in Riga, attracted attention with victories against Canada (3-2) and the Czech Republic (4-2), and NHL stars Denis Malgin, Nino Niederreiter and Nico Hischier, who were previously spared in the last preliminary round game, will also be back in action.

The DEB team, on the other hand, will fondly remember the quarter-final duel against Switzerland in 2021, which will thus get a new edition. At that time, the German team equalized a 0-2 deficit late on and advanced to the semi-finals by winning on penalties.

Captain Moritz Müller also referred to the coup of two years ago before the duel: "Switzerland are there with a strong team and have played a great tournament so far. Should the German team emerge victorious from the encounter, they would have to travel directly back to Tampere, where the two semi-finals will be played on Saturday (27 May).

In the other quarter-finals on Thursday, the USA will face the Czech Republic, Sweden will face co-hosts Latvia and Finland will face Canada.
