Jörg Schmadtke is about to sign for Liverpool FC. A job as head of transfer for coach Jürgen Klopp is apparently being considered.
Liverpool – Jörg Schmadtke, long-time Bundesliga manager, is about to start his first job abroad. The 59-year-old, who only announced his retirement from the football business at the beginning of the year, is moving to the island to Premier League club Liverpool FC. Schmadtke is to regulate the transfers for coach Jürgen Klopp in the future.

Jörg Schmadtke has already signed a contract with Liverpool FC, as the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung reported on Tuesday. According to the report, the former managing director of VfL Wolfsburg is expected to join the Reds on Friday and will then be officially introduced.
Schmadtke is apparently planned in Liverpool as the transfer boss of team manager Jürgen Klopp. According to the report, Schmadtke will not act as a sporting director as initially planned, but as a transfer consultant "with all powers". The former goalkeeper will take up his job on 1 June, and close cooperation is planned with long-time chief scouts Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter.

The commitment is initially designed for around three months until the end of the summer transfer period. A longer cooperation with Liverpool FC is also not ruled out, the newspaper wrote. At the same time, Liverpool want to intensify the search for a new sporting director.
Liverpool and Klopp are expected to miss out on a place in the Champions League this season. This is another reason why the team is facing a major upheaval. Schmadtke is now to shape it together with Klopp. The two apparently know and appreciate each other.

Born in Düsseldorf, he worked in various management positions for VfL Wolfsurg as well as for Alemannia Aachen, Hannover 96, and 1. Schmadtke was successful with all clubs and made it into the European Cup.

Schmadtke had retired to private life at the end of January. At the time, he told the Süddeutsche Zeitung that his wife Andrea would "take over the planning from now on, and she deserves it." The couple wanted to "see a little bit of the world now." However, he did not categorically rule out a return to business.
