Lillehammer - There is still no trace of missing biathlete Eivind Sporaland. The Norwegian's last sign of life came on the morning of March 19, when he spoke to his father and then left the house. Search operations for the 22-year-old were unsuccessful. However, his car and smartphone were found, but they could not yet be evaluated.

"We haven't been able to open it yet. We have to crack the code to get access. That could take some time," said the responsible official Ragnhild Ouren to the Norwegian TV channel TV2. The police are following up on numerous clues, but still have no hot lead as to where Sporaland could be.

"In cases like this, when people just disappear, it's very hard to find the motive for it. This has been quite unclear since the beginning. We are not looking for a deceased person. However, we regularly assess whether we should do so. But to do this, we would need a specific area that we can search," Ouren continues.

Nevertheless, the 22-year-old's family continues to believe in a good ending. "We have no other choice. As long as we don't have clarity, we cling to the hope that still exists. He is used to life in nature and we think that he might have come a long way. We hope that people will pay attention and speak up when they see something. The police are dependent on clues. Our greatest wish is to find him," Eivind Sporaland's parents said in an interview with Norwegian newspaper Gudbrandsdolen Dagningen.

Biathlon talent Sporaland: New clues on the state of health

Recently, it became known that the 22-year-old was suffering from mental health problems when he suddenly disappeared. "It came out of nowhere and was a shock. That's why it's so brutal and painful to think about it," said the biathlete's parents. It is unclear exactly when the mental health problems first appeared. A week earlier, he competed in a biathlon competition. Family and friends didn't notice anything about Sporaland, he seemed the same as always. On March 15, after passing an exam, he went out to eat with friends. However, they noticed that evening that the 22-year-old behaved differently than usual.

"The things Sporaland tells his friends and family worry them. He is no longer himself. They suspect a sudden case of mental illness," wrote the Norwegian daily Gudbrandsdolen Dagningen. Three days later, his roommate Eirik Idland drove Sporaland to a clinic to see a doctor with whom he had a conversation. "We don't know what the conversation was about, but we were told to wait until the weekend," Idland said.
