ÖSV ace Digruber ends career: "I am very happy that I was able to realize my childhood dream"
The 35-year-old has now announced the end of his career in a video post on Instagram: "I have ended my sporting career. In any case, thank you for keeping your fingers crossed, for the incredible moments I've had over the last few years and throughout my career," Digruber said in the emotional clip with a laughing and a crying eye.
The slalom specialist "realized that the time has come to draw a line," the responsible Ski Austria department quotes him as saying in a statement. "I've subordinated my whole life to skiing and I'm very happy that I was able to realize my childhood dream," said Digruber, who competed 94 times in the World Cup and finished among the top ten riders six times. He expressed his gratitude on Instagram "for so many, many memories and emotions" as well as "the priceless moments" during his active time.
After the end of his career: ÖSV ace Digruber slips into police uniform from now on
For the slalom skier, who celebrated his best result in Val d'Isère, France, in 2016 when he finished fourth, his career is also his career. While he last competed in the World Cup in Flachau in his home country at the beginning of March, he will henceforth work as a police officer in Scheibbs, Lower Austria. In doing so, he follows in the footsteps of his compatriot Ramona Siebenhofer, who will also join the police force after the end of her career as a ski racer.
The Ministry of the Interior of the Alpine republic also commented on its new addition: "When one door closes, another usually opens." In the form of the police uniform, this had been open "for a long time" to Digruber, who, according to his own statement, would like to "take the path towards the Alpine police".
"I'm now looking forward to spending time with my family," says retired slalom star Digruber
Digruber, who was able to win three European Cup victories as an active player, now wants to fulfill his role as a father of two. "I'm now looking forward to spending time with my family," he announced. At the end, he expressly thanked his personal environment.
